lyrics
(The lyrics are based on the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, elaborated during the Council of Nicaea in July 325 and the Council of Constantinople in July 381.)
After the promulgation of the Nicene Creed in July 325, Gaius is reading some parts of the Nicene Creed:
Solo: Kiato Luu
"-We believe in one God, the Almighty Father
The maker of heaven and earth
The founder of everything visible and invisible
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God…"
-Is there any sense?
"And in Him who was born of the Father before all ages
God from God, light of light
True God from true God
Born not made
Consubstantial to the Father
Namely, of the same substance with the Father…"
-That does not make any sense but…
Their faith is a sword
A shield against common sense
My duty was to keep the light of reason for my son."
Voices chanting from a house near by:
"Credo quia absurdum…"
Gaius:
"A savior incarnated by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin?
Buried and rose from the dead?
A god who is three but one? One but three?
It is so absurd but common people are easily mystified
They will wait for resurrection of the dead for a very long time…
But in my old days,
I feel that this belief will embrace and set ablaze the world because
Their faith is a sword
A shield against common sense
My duty was to give the light of reason to my son."
Voices chanting from a house near by:
"Credo quia absurdum…"
Solo: Kiato Luu
Gaius:
"Father, Son, Holy Spirit
Their creed, Their faith, Our doom
Freedom, awareness, knowledge, philosophy,
Reason, science, our lights, our fight, our life!"
